Come molte attività artigianali, il progetto The Iron Ring nasce da una profonda passione.
In attività dal 1999, The Iron Ring opera inizialmente nel campo della fornitura di attrezzature per gioco di ruolo dal vivo (L.A.R.P.) per espandersi quasi subito alle forniture per ricostruzione storica.
Nel 2002, al fondatore Giovanni Tricomi, si affianca Marina Ruiz (i due sono felicemente sposati dal 2005) che da un contributo fondamentale all’espansione del comparto costumi e del laboratorio in generale.
Negli ultimi anni, l’azienda si è occupata con successo di costumistica teatrale e cinematografica, allestimenti museali, cortei storici (fornitura di materiali e direzione artistica).
Ultimissimi, ma affrontati con l’entusiasmo che ci contraddistingue, si sono aggiunti settori del cosplay, forniture per pelletteria di alta gamma, abbigliamento alternativo e l’alta moda.
Negli anni, convinti della necessità di valorizzare e proteggere il patrimonio artigianale ed artistico italiano, abbiamo ampliato costantemente la nostra rete di collaboratori che ormai include decine di piccole e grandi genialità italiane che spaziano da giovani designer a maestri artigiani ultranovantenni.
Nell’affrontare le sfide della crescita, della continua riorganizzazione e affinazione, dell’affacciarsi sul mercato europeo ed internazionale proseguiamo con l’impegno di sempre nello sforzo di fornire prodotti e servizi di alta qualità per l’associazionismo, la cultura, l’intrattenimento.

Giovanni Tricomi
Fondatore della bottega, personalità eclettica e multiforme, proviene da una famiglia che dalla metà del secolo scorso fa impresa ed alta ingegneria in diversi settori.
Cresciuto in questo ambiente dinamico e competitivo, si lancia in un progetto dai più considerato inconsistente e lontano dalle attività istituzionali della famiglia, che tuttavia appoggia e sostiene l’iniziativa.
Ha affrontato tutte le necessità produttive ed organizzative da autodidatta cercando di accrescere, attraverso la sperimentazione, la frequenza di corsi ed una documentazione continua, il suo patrimonio di conoscenze e capacità.

Marina Ruiz
Laureata in chimica bioinorganica, da sempre appassionata di letteratura, arte e spettacolo, passa dalla confezione amatoriale di costumi al diplomarsi all’Accademia Euromediterranea di moda con lavori su costume storico e teatrale.
Nel 2007 viene selezionata per l’accesso al corso di costume cinematografico diretto dalla costumista Gianna Gissi in seno al Sannio Film Fest.

Alte Bauwerke und ihre Geschichte haben mich schon lange fasziniert und so bin ich 2003 zu den "Freunden der Burganlage Weißenstein" gelangt, was naheliegend war, da ich beruflich jedes Jahr in der Sommersaison in einem historischen Gebäude, dem "Museum zum Fressenden Haus" zu tun hatte. Dieses Museum gehört zur Burgruine Weißenstein bei Regen. Der Verein ist hauptsächlich für den Erhalt der Burganlage Weißenstein zuständig und organisierte jährlich auch ein Ritterspektakel, das allerdings seit 2008 nur noch 2-jährlich Anfang Juni stattfindet. Die Burgfreunde wiederum sind mit dem Verein "Arma Georgii" aus Furth im Wald befreundet, wodurch ich dann auch zu diesem Verein kam.

Vom "Gromi" zum Reenactor

Über Arma Georgii bin ich einige Zeit später dann vom Grob-Mittelalter-Hobbyist zum Reenactor geworden, der auch auf kleine Details achtet und nur noch handgenähte – möglichst nach Originalabbildungen gefertigte - mittelalterliche Gewandungen trägt. Viele Utensilien, die der Reenactor so braucht, kann man selbst herstellen, oft jedoch nur mit einigem Geschick und Aufwand. Die wenigen Anbieter fertiger, qualitativ akzeptabler Artikel, verkaufen diese oft zu sehr hohen Preisen. Somit wird dieses Hobby sehr schnell sehr kostspielig oder schlicht und ergreifend finanziell nicht leistbar. Viele Artikel werden so gut wie nicht angeboten, da sie einfach schwer aufzutreiben sind. Dies ist aber auch ein Anreiz für mich, solche Artikel aufzuspüren und auf den Markt zu bringen.

Authentisches Zubehör muss kein Vermögen kosten

Durch Zufall bin ich 2005 fast gleichzeitig auf mehrere Hersteller diverser Reenactmentartikel in guter Qualität und zu vernünftigen Preisen gestoßen, und schon war die Idee eines eigenen Geschäftes geboren. Anfang des Jahres 2006 habe ich dann mein Gewerbe angemeldet und auf den ersten beiden Märkten Artikel verkauft. Auf diesen beiden Märkten hatte ich gleich recht guten Erfolg, da ich hochwertige Reenactmentartikel anbieten konnte und die Kunden begeistert waren, so etwas auf einem "stinknormalen" Mittelaltermarkt zu finden. Der dazugehörende Internetshop klappte aus mehreren Gründen dann erst im April 2007.

Seit 2008 sind wir mehr...

Seit 2008 ziehen drei Stände mit meinem Warenangebot umher, da ich mit einem Stand nicht alle schönen und interessanten Feste besuchen kann. Es gibt einfach zu viele gute Märkte und solche die es werden wollen. Allerdings gibt es auch Feste an welchen man, auf Grund mangelnder Organisation, fehlender Szenekenntnis etc. nicht unbedingt teilnehmen muss. Auch diese Erfahrung musste ich - wie wohl viele - bereits mehrmals machen. Ich hoffe, dass sich hier in den nächsten Jahren die Spreu vom Weizen trennt und sich hauptsächlich die guten Märkte durchsetzen werden, da sonst die ganze Mittelalterszene – wenn man das so nennen darf – in ein schlechtes Licht gerückt wird und die Luft bald raus ist.

Reenactment-taugliche Ware für die Szene

Mein Hauptziel ist nach wie vor, den Reenactor, gute, interessante Mittelaltermärkte und deren Besucher mit qualitativ hochwertiger, günstiger und vor allem reenactmenttauglicher Ware zu versorgen und schöne Feste und Lager unter freundlichen Menschen zu erleben. Es macht mir einfach Spaß, immer wieder neue gesuchte Dinge aufzutreiben oder mittlerweile auch herstellen zu lassen und diese günstig anbieten zu können. Ich möchte auch Mittelalterbegeisterten mit nicht so großer Geldkatze die Möglichkeit geben, eine eventuell nicht ganz einwandfreie aber annähernd historisch korrekte Darstellung zu verwirklichen.

Eine Idee wird Wirklichkeit - Geschichte wird Gegenwart

Früher war alles besser, sagt man. Und das allerbeste an früher war, dass es
kein früher gab. Aber mal Spaß beiseite ….

Die Gründe zu erkunden, warum wir Menschen dazu neigen rückwärts zu schauen, uns faszinieren zu lassen von den Geschehnissen der Geschichte, sie wiederaufleben zu lassen, mögen gelehrte Leute ergründen.
Wir, die diesem "Wahn" verfallen sind, wir Re-enactors scheren uns darum wenig. Unsere Aufgabe und unserer Vergnügen ist es vielmehr den heutigen Menschen im wörtlichen Sinne zu vergegenwärtigen, wie vergangene Zeiten aussahen, wie die Menschen lebten, wie sie arbeiteten, fraßen, kämpften … .

Die Schicksals- und Wendepunkte der Geschichte waren zumeist blutige Schlachten.
Die Zeit hielt den Atem an, bis sie entschieden waren.
Die Sieger gestalteten ihre eigene, neue Epoche, die Verlierer wurden Geschichte ...
Dieser Moment der Atemlosigkeit ist unter anderem einer der großen Reize, welcher z. B. tausende Darsteller und Mitwirkende alljährlich nach Hastings treibt, um die große Schlacht um England anno 1066 nach zu erleben. Aber nicht nur Normannen und Angel-Sachsen gehen in die Schlacht. Es formieren sich auch wieder Römer am Limes, Mongolen satteln ihre Pferde, die Kreuzzüge werden lebendig.

Die zweitwichtigste Maxim nach dem Spaß an dieser gelebten, anfassbaren Geschichte ist natürlich die Authentizität. Re-enactment verbindet Rollenspiel, Sport, Aneignung von handwerklichen Fähigkeiten mit anschaulichem Geschichtsunterricht. Der Mangel an authentischer, hochqualitativer und dennoch bezahlbarer Ausrüstung prägte die vergangenen Jahre.

Die Mannschaft, die sich derweilen unter dem Namen ULFBERTH versammelt hat, will helfen, diese Versorgungslücke zu schließen und „neue“ hochwertige, authentische und voll gebrauchs- und kampffähige Re-enactmentprodukte zu entwickeln und zu er- schwinglichen Preisen verfügbar zu machen.
In den letzten Jahren wurde bereits der Grundstein für ein umfangreiches Sortiment an Ketten- und Plattenrüstung, Schmiedeprodukten für Kampf und Lager, historisches Schuhwerk und Kleidung gelegt.
Das Angebot wird stetig erweitert. Es wird nicht geruht und nicht gerostet.

ULFBERTH wird nicht ermüden, uns immer wieder mit neuem Alten zu überraschen.

My name is Grzegorz Kulig. In 2000 I graduated from art school and became a professional wood-carver. Then in 2001 I made my first helmet, but at this time it was just my hobby. Over the past few years there has been a significant evolution in my armouring skills and craftsmanship. Now making armour is a real great passion of mine and it has also become my profession. I consider myself a very lucky guy, as I can now join these two things together. I am continually learning new armouring techniques, because I believe in continual personal development and growth. Prima di dedicarsi all'arcieria storico-tradizionale Celestino Poletti faceva parte di un gruppo storico impegnato in rievocazioni di tornei cavallereschi di ambientazione medievale, che venivano proposte soprattutto nel corso di manifestazioni organizzate in Trentino e nel Veneto. Proprio a quel periodo risale il primo incontro con la tradizione arcieristica ungherese, principalmente basata sul tiro da cavallo nel quale fluidità del tiro, disinvoltura nei movimenti e ordine interiore sono i requisiti chiave per la corretta esecuzione di un gesto che è un'espressione di cultura più che l'esemplificazione di una corretta tecnica di tiro.
Si tratta di concetti completamente diversi da quelli cui siamo avvezzi nel nostro ripercorrere la storia dell'arcieria europea, dove la potenza fisica dell'arciere - potremmo dire il suo braccio di ferro con l'arco - è spesso l'aspetto che sembra prendere il sopravvento, quello su cui magari indugia la narrazione del cronista o dello storico. Nella tecnica di tiro centro-asiatica (quella praticata in Ungheria, appunto) gli archi usati non richiedono libbraggi molto elevati, e ciò per due ragioni principali. Innanzi tutto la corda tirata fino alla clavicola - con allunghi di 33-34 pollici, segue la freccia molto più a lungo determinandone una elevata velocità di uscita. Inoltre le leve rigide (originariamente in legno o in osso) montate alle estremità di entrambi i flettenti hanno il duplice effetto di attenuare lo sforzo del tiratore e di garantire una trazione più fluida e costante.
L'aspetto più sorprendente di tale azione di tiro è la totale assenza di ciò che può essere definita un'azione di mira; sono invece - si potrebbe dire - la coscienza del tiratore, il suo cervello o piuttosto tutto il suo essere a "catturare" il bersaglio e a fare si che il lancio della freccia sia un'ovvia conseguenza di uno stato d'animo più che di un atto di volontà inteso a centrare il bersaglio.
L'arricchimento derivato da tale esperienza ha indotto Celestino Poletti a tentare di introdurre anche in Italia la filosofia di tiro centro-asiatica, sia con un'azione didattica esercitata a beneficio di tutti coloro che hanno manifestato o manifestano interesse nei confronti di quest'ultima, sia attraverso quella che potrebbe essere definita un'azione dimostrativa, e cioè i due tentativi, entrambi riusciti, di battere il record di frecce scagliate in 24 ore. In particolare, il secondo tentativo (17641 frecce) ha mostrato chiaramente come l'applicazione di quella tecnica di tiro consenta di affrontare tale tipo di prova con uno sforzo relativamente contenuto e con una elevata precisione, senza dimenticare peraltro la dimostrazione di affidabilità e continuità di prestazioni offerta in quella circostanza dagli archi della Kassai.
Celestino Poletti importa e costruisce nella sua bottega che sia affaccia sul Lago di Cei (tranquilla località montana dove la natura incontaminata sembra abbia fermato il tempo) archi di varie fogge storiche, non esclusi pertanto quelli riferibili alla tradizione più tipicamente europea e italiana, per la cui ricostruzione egli utilizza esclusivamente legno di tasso stagionato naturalmente.
Inoltre Celestino mette a disposizione dei tiratori un'ampia scelta di accessori artigianali, a richiesta personalizzabili, che sono stati apprezzati e adottati da vari gruppi di arcieria storica italiani per i quali la bottega di Celestino sta diventando ormai un utile punto di riferimento, anche per la continua disponibilità di oggetti che normalmente sono quasi irreperibili sul mercato.

Before devoting to traditional-historical archery Celestino Poletti was member of an historical group working in medieval chivalrous tournaments, mainly presented during demonstrations in Trentino and Veneto. In that period he met the Traditional Hungarian Archery based on Riding Archery where fluency , motion confidence and inner self order are the key requirements for the correct performance of gesture, which is a cultural expressions, even more then the performance of a correct fence skill.
The concept is completely different from the one known in European archery history, where the archer’s physical power - the iron arm with the bow – it’s often the main aspect , sometimes maybe overstayed by chroniclers and historians.
The bows used in middle-east technique (practiced in Hungary) don’t have an high “draw weight” for two main reasons: first of all polling the string backward to the clavicle, with extensions of 33-34 inches, follow the arrow providing an higher throwing speed. Moreover the rigid tip (bone or wood ) mounted at the end of both limbs has dual effect to reduce the tractive effort of the drawer and to guarantee greater fluency and constant traction. The most amazing aspect of such action is the absence of anything like taking aim. The consciousness of the archer, his brain and his being, capture the target and the shoot becomes a consequence of the climate more then an act of will to get the target. This own experience has led Celestino Poletti to bring in Italy the middle Asian archery philosophy, either with didactic activity to anyone interested to archery, or with demonstrative activity, i.e. with two successful attempt to break the record of arrows shot in 24 hours. In particular, the second attempt (17641 arrows) has clearly shown how the application of such technique allow to face this kind of test with a reduced effort and high precision (without forgetting the evidence of reliability and continuity provided during the test by Kassai bows.
Celestino Poletti workshop is in front of the Cei lake, nice mountain site where uncontaminated nature seems to stop the clock. He imports and constructs various shapes of bows, including the ones referring to European and Italian tradition, using exclusively seasoned yew wood.
Moreover Celestino provides to archers a wide range of handcrafted fittings, customised on demand, that are appreciated and adopted by many Italian groups of historical archery for which the Celestino workshop is becoming a useful point of reference, even for the continual availability of products that are normally untraceable on the market.

Our firm is interested in making replicas of armours and arms for the needs of historical sword fighting and living history performances as well as for all the other people interested in this kind of products. Our production is accompanied with production of goods connected to this field - coin replicas, costume accessories, and small objects for decoration. Its establishing was based on previous hobby-activities and experience in "professional" production carried out in the form limited by the communist regime as a special economic activity of a "Union for the Cooperation with the Army (Svazarm)" unit. Our company has fully developed after 1989.

Our firm continuously widens up the production according to custommers' demands, adjusts the production to current needs, and offers not only the presentation of products but using traditional technological procedure and in some fields (eg. coinage) even real-time presentation of the original technologies.

Currently there is the firm's official seat and sample-presenting shop in Prague and a workshop in the region of Chomutov (CZ). The firm employs about 10 regular employees and the same number of contract suppliers.

There is no problem to visit both our workplaces (most preferably after a previous arrangement by email or phone) and discuss everything that you might be interested in or see our workplaces and our products.

During the season we try to visit historic festivals, meetings of historic sword-figting teams and living history fans, reconstruction of historical battles and tournaments, historic feasts of towns and cities ect.
